A square is cut out of a circle whose diameter is approximately 14 feet. What is the approximate area of the remaining portion of the circle in square feet?
Accepted Solution
A:
see the attached figure to better understand the problem
we know that the side of square=2*[r*√2/2]=r*√2 r=14 ft the side of square=14*√2=19.80 ft
[area of the remaining portion of the circle]=[ area of a circle]-[area of a square]
[area of a square]=(14√2)²=392 ft² [ area of a circle]=pi*14²=615.75 ft² therefore [area of the remaining portion of the circle]=615.75-392=223.75 ft²
